Obituary of Edgar Bruce Caines

Edgar passed quietly in the comfort of his home with his partner in life for the past 30 years at his side. Such a short time for soul mates, but they certainly shared many challenges and adventures together, and were blessed to have made many of their dreams come true.

Born in St. John’s Newfoundland, Edgar never lost that special charisma so characteristic of Newfoundlanders. He first moved to Windsor, Ontario as a young man to work at the Ford plant.  Later he moved to Northwestern Ontario to work briefly at Griffith open pit mine in Ear Falls, then on to Dickenson gold mine [now Goldcorp] in Red Lake, where he met and married his wife Estelle. His final move was to the Dryden area to slow down and settle into ‘retirement’.

Edgar was a dedicated, hard-working man whether on the job or at home. There was always something to build or renovate or maintain and he revelled in this activity. Edgar loved spending time outdoors and particularly appreciated always being able to live on the water. He doted on the family’s beloved canine and feline companions who brought him much comfort over the years. Family was most important to Edgar and he loved them fiercely.

A fighter to the end, pushing the envelope as always, he is finally at peace in God’s arms and reunited with his family who have all passed before him – his parents Ted and Ella, sister Marilyn and brother Derrick. He will be missed by his wife and best friend Estelle, and son Cliff [Jodie]. In lieu of flowers, a simple act of kindness would be a wonderful way to celebrate Edgar’s life.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 3217 County Rd. #4, Bradford on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 12 noon followed by a reception at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford.
