It has been one week since Dad’s passing and our entire family is still in shock. We are saddened and heartbroken to have lost someone that was such a big part of our lives.
I am one of Carl’s son-in-law’s that knew him both personally and professionally for most of my adult life. After a long and successful career as the Chief Financial Officer of a major construction utilities company, Carl retired and some years later came out of retirement to support me with a start up company I founded in 1998. The original intent was to keep him busy a few days a week and that part-time venture turned into 15-years. This new chapter of his life turned into something he really enjoyed doing and everyone at work always looked forward to seeing him one or two days in the week. Looking back, I genuinely believe he was instrumental in the company’s success by way of the experience and guidance he gave the company over those years. He really enjoyed his work, and it meant a lot to him.
On the personal side, reading many of the postings describing Carl as a kind and gentle soul and a true gentleman is exactly how I would also describe him in his personal life as well as in his work life. He was courteous, thoughtful, and always made others feel important. Above all, his family meant everything to him! Although he is no longer with us, we are extremely grateful to have been able to spend so much quality time with him over the years traveling on vacations together, watching live sporting events and concerts (which he really loved) and this year with the lockdowns going on walks in the neighbourhood as well as some local walking trails. He loved spending time with his family, and we loved spending time with him!
We will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace Dad. You will always be in our hearts. Jose
