Obituary of Lena Schankula

Peacefully passed away at Southlake Residential Care Village, Newmarket on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 94 years of age.

Beloved wife of late John Schankula Jr. Loving mother of Barbara (Danny) Ransom and Hilda (Bill) Hammond. Proud Oma of Daniel (Emily) Ransom, Jennifer Ransom; Christopher (Meaghan) Hammond and Jeffrey (Siobhan) Hammond. Cherished Great Oma of Luke Ransom.

Lena spent her retirement winters as a snowbird in Florida. She enjoyed having family members visit her in sunny TI. Lena loved to watch hockey. She cheered for the Leafs and Bolts. Lena’s family was everything to her. She looked forward to all family gatherings, trips to Disney World, and cheering on the grandchildren at all of their events.

Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill.

In Lena's memory, donations may be made to Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake Regional Health Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
