Obituary of Victor Cummings
With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Vic Cummings, born June 13, 1939, in Montreal, Quebec, and who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, in Newmarket, ON.
Beloved husband of Ann Cummings (nee Ferguson). Loving father of Annette (Anthony), and David (Kathleen). Proud grandpa of Stephanie, Andrew (Deanna), Brandan, Hannah (Mac), and Ainsley. Cherished great-grandpa of Wesley, Aliya, Eloise, Avonlea, Theodore, and Annabelle. Predeceased by his parents Victor and Ada Cummings. Dear brother of Cora (late Bill) Krachan, and the late Barbara (late Frank) North. Vic will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Vic spent his early years in East York, Toronto, where he developed the curiosity, humor, and warmth that would later define his life and career. His professional journey led him into the world of broadcasting — a calling that perfectly suited his wit, charm, and natural ease with people.
For 18 years, Vic worked with CHCH Channel 11 in Hamilton, Ontario, serving as a respected news broadcaster before creating and hosting his own beloved 30-minute program, Soap Box. With sharp comedic timing and an unmatched feel for entertainment, Vic earned the affectionate nickname “Mr. Soaps”, delighting audiences with his hilarious insights into daytime television — especially his spirited take on The Young and the Restless. His voice, laughter, and joyful personality became fixtures in homes across the region, leaving an indelible mark in Canadian broadcasting.
Beyond the studio lights, Vic was known for his generosity, warmth, and keen sense of humor. He had a unique gift: he could make anyone feel seen, valued, and welcome. His ability to brighten a room — whether through a quick quip, a thoughtful conversation, or a story only he could tell — will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
Vic leaves behind a legacy defined not only by his career, but by kindness, connection, and love. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the many viewers who shared countless laughs with “Mr. Soaps.”
Though his voice has gone quiet, his spirit, laughter, and warmth will echo forever.
