Obituary of Steve Muir
Steve passed away peacefully at Margaret Bahen Hospice, Newmarket on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 78 years of age.
Beloved husband of Valda for 56 years. Loving dad of Shannon (Terry) and Curtis (Kristina). Proud Grandpa of Maximus and Aemilia. Dear brother of Kim (Bettyann) Muir and Marty (Gill) Muir and predeceased by sister Pat and brother-in-law Doug Lamb. Brother-in-law to Alex (Fay, predeceased) Gerrard and Gord (Coreen) Gerrard as well as uncle and cousin to many wonderful family members.
At the heart of Steve’s life was his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather. His family was his greatest joy. Steve was also a great friend to many, many people and his warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him.
Steve held many different roles through his life - with a special passion for technology. Working at Xerox lead to great friendships in addition to fantastic life experiences, such as working in Europe. Steve was also a true entrepreneur, owning businesses from gas stations in Calgary to computer sales, SM Business Solutions.
Steve had a deep love for the outdoors, finding peace and happiness in nature through fishing, boating, ATVing and just being in the woods. He was always ready for adventure though, and happy to travel anywhere. Whether a road trip with Valda in Ontario, visiting nearly all 50 states or travelling through Europe, Scotland being a particular favourite.
A consummate event and party planner, he had a true gift for bringing people together. When he hosted, laughter, joy, and probably a wee dram, filled the room. Everyone left with cherished memories.
Known for his big bright smile and generous spirit, Steve was always willing to lend a helping hand. He dedicated himself to service as a proud Mason, Shriner, and Jester and many other volunteer activities. He embodied the values of charity, fellowship, and joy.
He will be terribly missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the countless moments of kindness and happiness he shared. We will continue to strive to be as compassionate, charitable, and joyful as he was—a true example of a life well lived.
A Masonic Service will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford under the auspices of Tuscan Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 99 G.R.C. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1 p.m. A celebration of Steve's life will follow from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.
