Obituary of Svitlana Semenova

Surrounded by the love of her family, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Svitlana Semenova on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston.

Svitlana was born to her late parents David Giorgiev and Tamara Giorgieva, and spent the majority of her life in Ukraine. A woman of respectful intellect and selfless compassion, she dedicated her work to improving social welfare through her government service in Kyiv. Svitlana's empathy and humanitarian efforts significantly changed the lives of countless people in her career, family, and personal life. Her call-to-action and sense of justice created immeasurable change that continue to resonate within generations of the people she served.

Most importantly, outside of her work, Svitlana was deeply loved by her family and many friends. Dearly beloved mother to Nana Vadachkoriya and her husband Bezhan of Bradford, Ontario. Babushka of Natia Cristello (Adam) and Irakli Vadachkoriya (Amanda). Cherished Babula (great-grandmother) to Nicolas Cristello. Svitlana was the heart of her family and played a pivotal role in raising her grandchildren and great-grandson. Her heritage, values, and ethics continue to live-on within her family. 

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care and kindness provided by the staff and volunteers at Matthews House Hospice. 

Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Road, Bradford on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of a traditional funeral service at 11 a.m. Private family Interment will follow in procession to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bradford. 

A celebration of life will be held for her family and friends to gather following the service. Details of this reception will be shared at the service by the family.
