Obituary of Bernard "Bernie" Granovsky

Bernard “Bernie” Granovsky, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16th, 2026.

A man defined by his kindness and his quiet, steady devotion to those he loved, Bernie leaves behind a legacy of warmth and a life well-lived.

Born on October 24, 1943, in Winnipeg, to Abraham and Rose Granovsky, Bernie grew up with a strong sense of family. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Paul and Tybie.

In 1986, Bernie married the love of his life, Nancy Galbraith, on August 9th. Together they built a life centered on family until her passing in 2001. Bernie carried her memory with him everyday, finding his greatest pride in their son, Johnathan, born in 1991.

A dedicated professional, Bernie spent his career as a Senior Underwriter, retiring in 2018. He was a man of comfortable, cherished routines. Every morning began with the simple pleasure of a fresh cup of coffee and the daily newspaper. He was a man of gentle reactions; whenever something truly delighted him or warmed his heart, he was known to offer a soft, trademark "Oh dear."

While he didn’t have human grandchildren, Bernie stepped into the role of "Grandpa" with enthusiasm for his beloved fur-babies: Libby, Smokey, Sirius, and Onyx. His love for them was a testament to his big heart.

Bernie is survived by his devoted son, Johnathan Granovsky, and his daughter-in-law, Nicholle.

He will be fondly remembered by his nephews, his nieces, his sister-in-law Linda, and a wide circle of friends and extended family who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 19153 Centre St., Mt. Albert on Saturday, February 21st, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until time of a funeral service in the funeral home at 12 noon. Followed by interment at Zephyr Zion Cemetery.

In Bernie's memory, donations may be made to Sick Kids Foundation or to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
