Obituary of Irene Antonakis

Irene peacefully passed away at Hellenic Home For The Aged, Scarborough on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at 93 years of age.

Beloved wife of late Vasilios "Basile" Antonakis. Loving mother of Fotini (Nicolaos) Protopapas, Sevasti Antonakis (Fernando Ortins), Konstantinos Antonakis, and Haralambos "Bobbey" (Stacey) Antonakis. Proud grandmother of Theodoros "Terry", Vasilios "Basile", Raphael, Ekaterini "Katrina" and Irene; Marianna, Irene, Vasilis "Billy" and Chrysa. Cherished great grandmother of Katerina, Niko, Alexander, Giulia and Theodore. Dear sister of late George (Kostandina), late Stelios (Chrysoula), Evangelia (Gavrilos) and Pericles (late Efstathia). Dear sister-in-law of late Efthiminos "Mike" (Vagelio), late Anastasios, late Panagioti and Dimitrios. Irene will be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family whom she loved even though they are spread apart from Canada to Greece.

Irene immigrated with her husband and two daughters to Winnipeg, Canada in 1959. They relocated to Toronto, Ontario to be closer to her husband's brother and eventually added two sons to their family. Irene was a very hard worker outside of her home, but caring for her family was her primary commitment. She loved gardening, whether it was her fruit trees, or immaculate flower and vegetable gardens. She kept Greece close to her heart, but was happy to be wherever her family was. She will be forever remembered and was loved by all.

Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Wednesday April 8, 2026 from 5-8 p.m. 

Funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday April 9, 2026 at 12 noon.

Followed by interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bradford.

In Irene's memory, donations may be made to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, P. O. Box 34, Chatham, ON, N7L 5K1. Donations may also be made in-person at the funeral home via cash or cheque.
