Obituary of Dyce McDowell Sturgeon

 Passed away peacefully at home with his brother at his side, on Monday, January 7, 2013.  Dyce spent his last afternoon overlooking the farm that had been in the family since 1838.  Dyce was born at home on the 14th Line of West Gwillimbury on November 19, 1929, the third child of William Robert Sturgeon and Vaaletta Mitchell Sturgeon, three weeks after the stock market crash of '29 that was the start of the Great Depression.  Both families were early settlers in Simcoe and York Counties. All of Dyce's great-grandparents had settled in Upper Canada before 1840.  Dyce was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Florence (the late Ken Blanchard) and Jean (the late Robert Doubt).  Loved brother of Robert (Doris Payne) and his sister Margaret (Grant Britton).  Cherished by his nieces Carolee Sturgeon Mason (Geoffrey Mason), Heather Sturgeon (Mark Swallow), Ann Kerr (Richard Kerr), Jennifer Britton (Andray Whyte), Katherine Britton (Blake Sorrell) and nephew Richard Blanchard.  Beloved great uncle to Caitlin Mason (Tim Allam), Courtney Mason (Matthew McLean), Brigid Brown, Robert Brown (Natalie Siegel), Christine Kerr (Marc Hilliard), Katie Kerr, Matthew Britton-Whyte. Loving great great uncle to Haydn and Griffin Hilliard and Harper Allam.  For kindness and friendship in his final days, a heartfelt thank you to Shelley Wilson.  And a special thank you to Dr. Susan Kuzmyk for her compassion and care for Dyce.  Friends may call at SKWARCHUK FUNERAL HOME, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803) for visitation on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the St. John�s Presbyterian Church 2940 10th Sideroad, Bradford on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment St. John�s Coulson�s Hill Cemetery.  In Dyce�s memory, donations may be made towards the ongoing care of St. John�s Coulson�s Hill Cemetery.
