Obituary of Nickolaus Kristmann

Longtime resident of Queen Street, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, ON in his 88th year. Born December 9, 1925, to a German family living at Novi Slankamen, in what is now Serbia. Nick was recruited into the army in the Second World War and survived years in a Russian prison camp. After working in Germany, he immigrated to Bradford in 1956. He worked in construction, and was injured in a workplace accident in 1960, spending the rest of his life using a wheelchair. He was able to work for years in camera repair and was well-known around Bradford. Nick was a fan of pro wrestling and the Three Stooges, and never lost his sense of humor. Nick was predeceased in 1992 by his wife Maria (nee Pfeiffer), a brother and two sisters. Nick will be fondly remembered by daughter Hermina (Terry) Goy of Bradford, daughter Erika (Boris) Horodynsky of Churchill, son Walter of Victoria, BC and daughter Veronica (Bruce) Annan of Aurora. Nick will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Adam and Julie Goy; Roman and Anita Horodynsky; and Ashley Bell. Friends may call at SKWARCHUK FUNERAL HOME, 30 Simcoe Rd. Bradford (1-800-209-4803) for visitation on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Lathangue Chapel at Skwarchuk Funeral Home on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Martyrs Cemetery, Bradford.
