Obituary of Doris Eileen Sturgeon

 Doris passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2014. She spent her final days surrounded by family, reminiscing and listening to her favourite tunes.  Doris is grieved by her loving husband of 64 years, W. Robert Sturgeon, daughters Carolee (Geoffrey Mason), Heather (Mark Swallow), grandchildren Caitlin Mason (Tim Allam), Brigid Brown, Robert Brown (Natalie Siegel-Brown), Courtney Mason (Matthew McLean) and great granddaughter Harper Allam. Also survived by sister-in-law Margaret Britton (Grant), and nieces and nephews in the Payne, Harvey, Blanchard and Britton families. Doris was predeceased by her parents Edward Milton Payne and Christena Mae Ferguson, her brother Norman (Doris Cook), sister Florence (Clarence Harvey) and infant brother Donald.  Doris was born on May 26, 1922, on the family farm on the Bloomington (CFRB) Sideroad, between Yonge and Bathurst. She was descended from Gaelic speaking families in King Township (MacCallum, Ferguson, Stewart, MacDonald), and from members of the Primitive Methodist Community in York and Pickering Township (Middleton, Wilkinson), who later settled in Orillia, (Middleton, Wilkinson, Payne). All of Doris� ancestors had settled in Upper Canada before 1840.  For loving care and kindness in her final days, a special thank you to the staff of Lake House, Bradford Valley.  Friends may call at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803) for visitation on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the St. John�s Presbyterian Church, 2940 10th Sideroad, Bradford on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment St. John�s Cemetery, Coulson�s Hill.  Donations in Doris� name may be made to St. John�s Presbyterian Church, Coulson�s Hill Restoration Fund (c/o St. John�s Presbyterian Church, Bradford).
