Christa Hinzmann

Obituary of Christa Thea Hinzmann

Christa Thea Hinzmann died suddenly on Sunday June 25, 2017 with her family by her side.  She was a brave woman who fought illness for many months on her own without treatment.

Christa was born on January 11, 1929 in Berlinchen, Germany to her parents Amandus and Erna Döring.  Christa moved to Canada with her husband Rudi in 1954.  They had three beautiful daughters together, Rosemarie, Eleanor and Christine.

Christa maintained a strong connection to her German roots through correspondence with many family members and close friends in Germany.  She visited Germany many times after moving to live in Canada.  She often spoke fondly of her childhood memories.

Christa was well known in her community and was the self-proclaimed “Queen of Queensville Sideroad”.  Christa had a lifelong love for gardening and every summer planted and sold flowers by the roadside.

Christa graduated from York University in 1991 at the age of 63 with a Bachelor of Social Work and she worked in North York for many years helping many families.

Christa was an honorary member of the Carpenter’s Union Retirees Club and attended monthly gatherings with many of her dear friends.

Christa was the beloved grandmother of eight grandchildren: Erika, Paul, Nathan, Hanna, Naomi, Erik, Mackenzie and Rudi. And she was the beloved great-grandmother (better known as Omi) to five great-grandchildren: Leonel, Neila, Marisol, Alexander and Alice.

Christa was a woman with a strength like no other and a love for life she shared generously with everyone she knew.  Although this loss is difficult for those who knew and loved Christa dearly her memory will live on through all the lives she touched. May she rest in peace and remain in our hearts forever.

A memorial visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Road, Bradford on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 12 noon until the time of a memorial service in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m.
