Emlyn Westlake

Obituary of Emlyn Jeanetta Westlake

With heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Emlyn Jeanetta (Turton) Westlake, in her 95th year on Sunday, December 17, 2017.

Emlyn, was predeceased by her husband Robert Westlake (1980) and two sons, Doug (2014) and Lawrence (1989). Emlyn will be greatly missed by her children, Ken & Diane Westlake of Orangeville; Kathryn & Mike Ulicki of Alliston; Betty & Carman Buttars of Cambridge; and Diane & Keith Ferguson of St. Thomas; along with 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Emlyn was daughter to Roy and Hannah Turton and was predeceased by her brothers, Harvey, Howard, Jim, Jessie and sister Ruth.

Even though Emlyn was a busy home-maker and mother, she joined the “Tec-Gwill Women’s Institute” and, with 71 years of membership, was the last surviving charter member. Emlyn was raised with a strong faith and devotion to her church which she carried throughout her life.  She also belonged to the UCW and was known for her potato salad, tea biscuits and coconut cream pies at the church functions.  Emlyn’s other interests included sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, bid euchre, golfing and bowling.

With great satisfaction, Emlyn declared she was blessed with a wonderful family, and a good life.  She took great pride in outliving all her siblings and parents.  Her only regret was that she didn’t live to be 100.  Emlyn was a feisty, charming beloved matriarch who cherished her family and many close friends and she will be greatly missed.

Friends and family may attend visitation at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment Bond Head United Church Cemetery.
