My family and I were saddened to hear of Mr. Martin's passing. My children were former students of his and he was more than a teacher but a friend to both of them. My son had him for 2 years and my daughter for 1. My son enjoyed his company that he came back to to Mr Martin's class as a coop student. We all valued his humour aand his concern for my children. He was such a family man I remember him showing us pictures of his daughter's wedding with such pride. We will miss running into him on our excursions to Bradford . Rest in peace and until we meet again.

We were deeply sadden to hear the news of the loss of our dear friend Mr. Martin this week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ivan's whole family. Mr. Martin was my son's Grade 8 teacher (four years ago). Johnathan just adored him and he was such an amazing teacher with my special needs son. His caring and kind words were always so soothing to both Johnathan and myself when we had bad days together. I will never ever forget how Ivan was so supportive and caring with Johnathan during his graduation ceremony. He made sure to stand right near Johnathan to help ease him thru this overwhelming event and to let him know he was right there by his side and to not worry about anything. Mr. Martin was so very proud of Johnathan too as if he was one of his own son's graduating that day. I was also so very touch that Ivan made sure to take a picture of Mom and son's first dance together at Johnathan's graduation that night with his own camera as it was just the two of us attending that night. He sent me the picture by email the very next day so that I could always have it as a keepsake to remember this emotional and priceless moment forever. R.I.P. Mr. Martin. The fondest memories I have of Ivan were the times he came to the Maritimes where he performed the role of PopPops to the Martin (Drew and Anna) off spring. He brought them so much fun and joy. He was part of the awesome Heather/Ivan team. I would see him at the Dartmouth Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning with at least three of them in tow. The kids loved those artistically iced cookies they made for them. Secretly, I was hoping that they would slip me one on the side. Their overnight visits with them in a hotel with a swimming pool will never be forgotten. Celebrations of Rosie's Birthdays at the Pizza Oven at Dillman's Park were times where he was able to display his enthusiasm and humour which will be missed. He appeared so knowledgeable about plants so I can imagine that he had a beautiful garden somewhere.PopPops will be missed by all of us. Bonny and Keith
