One summer, many years ago, Charlie, Kathy and I went to Nova Scotia and stayed at Auntie Marion and Uncle Murray's down east cottage. It was a lovely base to travel back and forth from to do some Maritime sight seeing. In front of the cottage, I remember Charlie and Kathy snorkelling in the sea, finding little treasures on the ocean floor, shells, pebbles and little crabs, tiny fishes swimming about. As chance would have it, my mother, sister, brother-in-law and kids were also down east on Prince Edward Island having rented a cottage by the sea for a week or two. We all decided to meet up on the island and to spend a day together. It was a lovely time and Charlie was so sweet with my mom. She wanted some milk at a corner store and Charlie went and got it for her, refusing the money she offered him. It was a small gesture, but It meant a lot to her. She thought he was thoughtful and kind and called him a 'gentle giant'. She never forgot him and always referred to him that way, whenever we spoke of him.
Charlie, sweet dreams, lie light, sleep tight, you 'gentle giant'.
