Barbara was my eldest cousin on my mother's side. I never knew of her passing away until now. My deepest sympathies. My mom and her were very close and she was one of my favourite cousins on mums side too. Mum passed at age 64 in 2002. I remember her telling me stories of how close they were and often over the years I'd find mum on the phone having a good chat. I regret losing touch with my Sayers family. So few left and I have no way to contact them. Anyway just letting you know that my brother Brian his family and I (Anne's chidren) remember her and send our sympathies to you and family.

The first time I met Barb was in 1979. I was afraid to drive the roads in York Region at that time as I had a fear of getting lost and there was no GPS in those days. I had to visit a certain school in King City to examine a special education class. I expressed that I was new to the region and was not comfortable driving there. Barb called me and offered to drive me as she also had to visit that same class and school. She was also new to the Board and to the York Region area but felt comfortable to drive there. She picked me up at St. Peter's School and we were on our way. Unfortunately Barb got very lost and I certainly was unable to help her with navigation. We ended up driving around for three hours completely missing our appointment but getting to know each much better and remaining friends for life.
One of my favourite memories was when both Barb and I had to go to a school Christmas party. We were both very busy teachers, new mothers, and always juggling many tasks at the same time. I had wrapped my required gift earlier but Barb ran out of time. We both rushed out of school and began to drive to the restaurant where all school staff were to meet. She lead, like usual, and I followed. We drove for about a half hour until we reached our destination. I climbed out of my car with my wrapped gift and walked over to Barb's van.
"Okay," I said. "I'll give you five minutes to wrap your gift."
"No problem," she replied. "It's wrapped!"
I stood there staring at a beautifully and neatly wrapped present, bow and all.
Only gifted Barbara Vanspall could have accomplished such a feat while driving.
I have many many memories of my friend Barb and would be very happy to share them with her family.

Dearest Len, Greg, Mark, Bern and family,
We send you our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your precious wife, mother and sister-in-law.
We will always remember Barb as passionately devoted to her family, and as a fiercely protective, nurturing, and adoring mother. It was clear to everyone who knew her that Barb’s family was her life’s focus, her greatest treasure, her pride, and her joy. We all witnessed Barb’s selfless devotion to Len, Greg and Mark, and to her parents, who she also loved dearly, and whom she cared for tenderly and faithfully.
When we began our own family, Barb made time to visit us with Len, to invite us to their home, and to carefully pack and pass on baby clothes and other valuable items for which we were very grateful. In her own sensitive, soft-spoken and practical way, Barb told us that she preferred to give “useful” gifts, and generously and gently offered us ‘new parent’ advice and support.
Barb’s kindness and generosity also flowed freely over our extended family, and she enthusiastically and frequently offered her time and help to older family members. We remember Barb devotedly making the time to help our Aunt Avis and Uncle Ryan with everything from cleaning and organizing to gardening whenever called upon, and we even remember her travelling to Brampton to pack suitcases for them when they travelled.
We are grateful for our memories of Barb’s gentle warmth and kindness, and for her deep and genuine love for her family. Please know that we will continue to hold Barb and your dear family in our hearts, and we will pray for your comfort, healing, and peace.

I will always remember our visit to Len & Barbara during our holiday to Canada in 1983. We stayed at uncle Stan's in New York and drove up. We had moved from Madras to London 7 years previously. It was our first international holiday and what impressed my brother Dave and I the most was.... the swimming pool!!! ... and the fact that Len (someone my mum knew) drove a sports car!!!This was all unheard of in London and Madras. We spent all afternoon swimming and playing with baby Greg and the big dog!
A few years later Len and Barbara visited us in London. I will never forgot Barbara got me a cassette 'Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon". It was my first album and when I told the kids in school it gained me 'street cred' like you can't even imagine.
I love the way Barbara and my mum used to chat and laugh. All good times. We still have that green curry laddle that we use for special parties that Barb bought all the way from Canada.
Barbara was a kind and gentle person and is on her way to the peace god has stored for her!

I will always remember and be grateful for Barb's hospitality extended to me and our family over the years. Often Bernadette and I would visit Len, Barb, Greg and Mark while we were living in Kirkland Lake. Barb always opened her home to us and made us feel so welcomed. One year my dad and brother visited from the USA and Barb made them feel so welcomed while they stayed in her home. During that visit, the family dog named Bear, ate the box of cashews that my dad brought for us. There were chuckles about that incident on both sides of the border for years to come.
Later, both Len and Barb were always willing to provide childcare to Anna and Joseph when Bernadette and I were heading off to this gathering or that meeting. Our kids enjoyed those times with Barb, Len and the boys.

Connie, my departed wife who is Len's mother Hermione's sister, and I have known Barbara from the time Len started courting her in the early 1970s. Barbara was always a sweet, loving and kind person. We were at their wedding in 1977 in Hamilton and were with them when Greg and Mark were born. Barbara was the ideal wife and mother. She took wonderful care of her family and later brought her mother home and cared for her as her health deteriorated and she died of Alzheimer's disease. Sadly, Barbara followed in her mother's footsteps and fell prey to the same disease. Len, Greg and Mark have suffered terribly over these many years watching her condition deteriorate. We pray for Barbara's soul and that Len, Mark, Greg and all the Vanspall family may find peace.
Barbara's passing follows after Len and Bernadette first lost Gordon, their brother, then Tony their dad and very recently, Hermione, their mother. They and the entire Vanspall family have had more than their fair share of crosses to bear. God give them strength to carry on.
