So Sorry to hear of this loss. My heartfelt condolences.
Very very nice Man. My neighbor up north he was always friendly and welcoming. Offering us to go anywhere on his land and do as we pleased.
Larger than life to my Son's he always was so nice and happy to see them. They thought he was GREAT!
We had a great laugh the nite he came up at 3am to defend my place when he thought we were burglars. The best fun with a great guy.
We sure will miss you Jim. You have left the legacy of a wonderful family.
To all of Jim's family and friends we say "Salute " and wonderful travel's to Jim Breen in the new forest he surely must be in.
Cheers Jim !

I had Mr. Breen as a teacher for grades 6, 7, and 8 at Sir William Osler. He was always my favourite teacher. He had a way of making his students feel special, and fostering resilience in them.
I only hope he knew how much it meant to me when he called me, over 12 years later, to congratulate me on the birth of my daughter. What an incredible man he was!
I'm so thankful to have had him as a teacher and role model in my life. The world has lost a wonderful, kind, and caring man.
Thank you Mr. Breen for caring and believing in me. I think of you often.
Rest in peace.

Dad, oh Dad, dear Dad of mine. We have loved you lots and will miss you more.
We are all so grateful that you are no longer struggling with the various health issues that have progressed through these last few years that have also made it frustrating for you to not be out and about with us all as you have been so accustomed. Mom’s diligent attention to your care was noticed by many other than family and we do hope that she will now take the opportunity for a well deserved rest as we all adjust together.
With these uncertain times, we know it will be some time before we can all be together for a proper celebration of Dad’s life and so for now, we may have to be content with some stories around the bonfire or a beer at the woodpile. I do truly believe that anyone wishing to honour him as they go about their everyday lives could not go wrong by keeping the following in mind:
Be kind to one another.
Acknowledge everyone.
Fight fair.
Always pitch in and help.
My kids have been along on many an escapade with Mom and Dad and have learned so much without even realizing it at the time because there was usually a good amount of fun, too. Hard work and a job well done might get you paid with some money, but not always. Maybe lunch was the deal that day-or ice cream. And other times, a trade was in the works. The wheeling and dealing, art of negotiation, how to talk to people, to gauge reactions and understand that money isn’t everything.
They also know the words by heart to almost every Stompin’ Tom song. By self admission, Dad couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. But, along with Huckleberry Hound, he really loved to sing. And holler. There was never any doubt where he was in a crowd, be it at an auction, sports match of any kind or perhaps looking for us. In some instances, he cheered just as loudly for the opposition if they made an especially great play or had a pretty goal. Many times, that roar was meant to stop someone or something in its tracks and it usually worked.
Mom and Dad were also fabulous dancers together. As young adults at local community centres or fairs and then as a couple at dance halls, much fun was had and many friends made through the years. I have heard comments at several weddings and family functions as they kept up with everyone.
Through our times of reflection on a life full of adventures, please know that he treasured every single one of you that was a part of his grand adventure. He would have considered it his good fortune to have met up with you along the way. As many shared stories and personal connections will keep his spirit alive in our memories, we are also so thankful to have met all walks of life through our travels with Mom and Dad, many becoming lifelong family friends.
So Dad, along with the likes of Yogi Bear, we shall hope that your pic-a-nic basket will always be blessed with assorted soups and sandwiches, lotsa goodies and many, many flavours of ice cream. As we bid you fond farewell and one more cookie for the road, rest easy and we will see you in the comics. Toodle loo for now.

There is a photo on my fridge of the visit of my son, Jeffrey Rees, and his 3 children to the cottage last summer. Jeffrey is trying to make a spark with a bow drill as Mr. Breen had demonstrated in grade 6 at Sir William Osler Public School. We were talking about Mr. Breen being one of the finest teachers and persons Jeffrey encountered throughout his education.
Incidentally , Jeffrey had no success with the bow drill, so resorted to an electric one. Still, he couldn't make fire like Mr. Breen.
Our deepest sympathy to the whole family. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.

My condolences to all the family. Jim was always a good friend to those he met. I spent a few days wandering with him at various times. Seems no matter how far out in the middle of nowhere we ended up he always knew someone who lived close by. Growing up it was always a treat for me when dad and I would stop in at the Breen household. And it always seemed to turn into a party when he showed up. Whether it was drinking warm whiskey in the basement because we ran out of everything else. Or driving around Lake Simcoe in the dark of night looking for dad's fish hut. My memories of Jim, and the rest of the family, are countless and fond. In times of need you always knew you could count on Jim for a hand. He's at piece now and that part is good, but he will leave a hole in everybody's life who knew him.

My deepest condolences to Erla and family. Mr. Breen was not only a teacher/principal, he was also a family friend. I remember many times, he, my father and John Boterill sitting at the picnic table talking about hunting. They all loved to hunt. As a teacher he was always involved in school sports. I remember playing baseball, soccer and I loved when we went to the arena and played broomball. It was a sad day when he left Park Avenue Public School. No one that took his place came close to filling his shoes. He was so respected and loved by everyone. He always took the time to listen if anyone had a problem or were going through difficult times at home. You will be greatly missed by many but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with Erla and your family. God Bless..

Sending our deepest condolences during this very sad time.
We were both in Grade 8 when Mr. Breen came to be Principal at Bradford Public in 1965-66. How very fortunate we were to have such a wonderful teacher, mentor and role model. He was highly respected and had the ability to bring out the very best in each of his students. The boys particularly benefited as he would load the entire baseball team up in his pickup truck for an after school game at a nearby school.
Over the past few years we were always delighted to see him at our church suppers where we would have a visit. He remembered that first class in 1965 fondly, as I'm sure he did all his classes.
Jim Breen left an indelible impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path.
May God grant you his peace in the days ahead.

Our heartfelt condolences to Erla and family. Jim Breen was a lifelong friend to 4 generations of the Kilpatrick family. In 1957 he boarded at Hugh and Agnes Kilpatrick’s farm where he taught at Park Avenue school. Margaret Kilpatrick often told the story of Mr. Breen shouting at the school so loudly it scared her when she was hanging out clothes. Mr. Breen was Principal and teacher to the family and it was a sad day when he moved to Bradford Public. Years later Jim and his wife Diane Rodgers moved to north of Bradford where their children went to Sir William Osler. Luke and Amber Kilpatrick were the fourth generation of Kilpatrick’s who knew this kind friend, teacher, tree remover, party guy and story teller. Mr. Breen we hope you are visiting with all your friends and family and toasting to a life well lived.

I want to express my deepest condolences to the family of Jim Breen. I had this wonderful man for grade 5 at Sir William Osler Public School. He was truly an amazing man. I remember he said to our class at the beginning of the year if one of us could guess his middle name we would get some kind of prize, I can't remember what it was. None of us could guess it. It turned out it was Archer. He would help anyone that truly wanted help in his class, but didn't put up with any disrespect from any of his students either. I saw him a few years ago at The Anchor in Sutton while I was having lunch while working in the area. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time. I will always remember him as one of the best teachers I ever had in school. I wish there was more teachers and people like him in the world. I have known Mr. Breen for over 60 years and have a lot of memories I could share but mostly my memories of my early school years at Park Avenue, how he taught me to play Baseball,Broom ball and Volleyball and also the first man to ever hit me and let me tell you , when he gave you the strap you felt the sting for the next 3 days. God Bless you Mr. Breen ♥

My most favourite teacher in the world. He taught me how to throw a baseball and so much more. I loved it when he read the stories from Readers Digest in the Open Area at Osler.
You will be greatly missed❤
My sincerest condolences to the entire family.

My condolences to the Breen family during this difficult time.
Mr. Breen was my Grade 5 teacher at Sir William Osler School. I remember him well, and not just for the slap of the yardstick on my desk when I was turned around talking to the friend behind me! :) I remember him for his caring spirit, kind words, and love for his profession. He made me a better student and is just "one of those teachers" that you always remember.
May you find strength in your memories and through those around you.
With sincere regards,
Darlene Vanderpost-Jebb

My condolences go out to Eria and their family. It is a sad day. Mr. Breen was more than a teacher and a Principal (he was though, of course, excellent at both of those positions). He was a pal. He really cared about us and that was obvious. I have a lot of great memories of my school days while he was at our school. He even came out and played sports with us. If it wasn't for the fact that he looked a "tad" older than we did, you would have thought that he was just another student on the field. He took his lumps just like the rest of us.
It's not that I was able to always stay out of his bad books. I wasn't! His glare was scary but it didn't last long and soon we were pals again. It worked as I never wanted to let him down again.
I was very fortunate to run into him quite often later on including in the last year or so. He hadn't changed. He was still the down to earth, caring and gregarious man that he was back when he was my teacher. Mr. Breen, Rest In Peace. You have earned it.

Erla and Family:
I have known Jim my whole life and I my husband Albert's father and uncles went to school with Jim. It's going to be a sad day, when Albert won't be able to pick up the phone and call Jim regarding this gun, or that gun. He will be missed. He was a great teacher, not only to those he educated but those that he came into contact with in every aspect of everyday life. He was a great man, and will be missed so much.

Jim was one in a million. A great teacher who cared about his students and taught them so many things that were not school subjects. So much encouragement to do their best. He will be missed by his family and so many other people. One of the "old " school teachers.
