I am saddened to see Jean’s smiling face in the newspaper. She was a favourite of mine - always spunky and full of life, always walking! when I knew her at the Elden. We would chat regularly and even when she was uncomfortable with foot problems or shingles she still had a way of brightening my day. I considered her a friend and I send you, her family, my thoughts as you suffer her loss - she was a great lady!
Fond regards
Jennifer de Winter

Adriana, Jean, Mom, Oma, Little Elmo, Tante Jaantje, Wonder Woman, Mighty Mouse ... our mom had many affectionate names. She immigrated from Holland in 1951, married our dad in 1954, and created a wonderful legacy to carry on the Mennen name. Christmas was very important to her, but she always said she'd rather have Christmas on any day so long as all of the family could be together. Mom was famous for her "Oma slippers" which she handed out every Christmas to the entire family, along with her knitted dish cloths. She was always the first one to lend a hand whenever needed, she volunteered at her beloved Community Hall in Holland Landing for many years, was a fierce card player (often catching our Dad cheating!), spent countless hours knitting bed mats made with milk bags for the homeless people in Haiti. She loved to travel with our Dad, and later with her sister Anna, friend Liz, sister-in-law Rita, and others. She was loved by so many. She will be missed.

Merlyn and Family, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, sorry for your loss.
I remember Jean being at all your family bbqs and parties or game night. She loved to be part of everything and enjoyed a good laugh. I always remember her being positive about most things and encourage people to go for what they wanted, dont be afraid to try, hard work will get you everywhere.she was always the first person to start helping with setting up tables and chairs or time for clean up, her energy outshined those many years younger than her. I loved sharing a class of wine with her and telling me stories of her trips. She was a straight shooter and i liked that. She will be remembered fondly.

Jenny, a friend alerted me to your mother's passing.
Bill and I are very sorry. It is awfully sad to lose one's mother at any age.
I am glad she was able to hear about the great grandchildren.
Our deepest sympathy to the whole family.
Cathryn and Bill
