Thank you, Helena...as Amanda commented the other day, "we lost Grandma a couple of years ago" due to the cruel disease of Dementia. While the last few weeks were "challenging", bringing her home from the retirement home (where she was not thriving) was the best decision we could have made. We brought in Hospall Private Homecare, she had her palliative nurse and doctor, and of course LHIN. Mom passed, holding our hands as she lay in bed, facing the field of onions.

We have lost a beautiful soul. Auntie Mae was always smiling and made everyone feel welcomed in her home. I, too, can say she made amazing butter tarts and I also remember cabbage rolls. But most of all, I will remember her acts of service - to her family, friends and community. She is the definition of selflessness and empathy. It brings a smile to my face knowing that she is with Uncle Gerry again and maybe even playing a game of cards.

Auntie Mae will always be remembered as an important part of my childhood. Growing up she was always there as a “second mom” taking us (Brenda and myself) to camp, movies and an abundance of lessons. She encouraged community and volunteer work by involving us as candy stripers at York Regional Hospital. And I will never forget those family road trips with her, Uncle Gerry, Auntie Marie and Uncle Louis. She will be missed and thought of often.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bill, Marlene, Brenda and family.
The sun, the moon, the wind, the stars, will forever be around, reminding you of the love you shared, and the peace she has finally found. -Author unknown

The word Catholic has its origin in the Greek language, meaning the whole. That is, the individuals and communities that come together to form the Catholic Church. May Eek embodied what it means to be a Catholic. With hard work and quiet devotion, she was an example to all of us of what a Christian in the Catholic Church should be. May was there for Sylvia and I, We will always remember her with love.

I cannot think of Auntie Mae and not think of her amazing butter tarts. You would also never go hungry when auntie Mae was around. She was always full of energy, running somewhere or helping someone. We can't forget the endless card games that were played. All her hard work has definitely been passed down to her three children. The amount of lives Auntie Mae has touched is countless. May you rest in peace Auntie Mae. Love Bonnie and Dave
