Obituary of Sarah Riley

Peacefully passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 91 years of age. Beloved wife of late Gordon. Loving mother of Brian (Cynthia), late Walter (Lori) and Douglas (Janice). Proud grandma of Mitchell (Sophie), Cody; Neil (Martina), Mallorie (Nick), Jordan (Cheyenne) and Shane. Cherished great grandma of Jack, Emilia, Raelyn, Lacey, Aiden and Caleb.

Sarah loved her family and was thrilled when she was able to enjoy their company.  Sarah enjoyed her elementary teaching career and often recounted stories about the friendships she made over the years.  Sarah volunteered at the Southlake Regional Health Centre rehabilitation pool for over 25 years.  She was a member of Tec-Wi-Gwill Institute in Newton Robinson and the United Church Women’s group.  Sarah’s interests included gardening, quilting, paper tole, sewing, cross-stitch, and painting/colouring.  Sarah won many awards for her hand made quilts and crafts.  Sarah participated in the Bradford West Gwillimbury History society and helped with writing the “Governor Simcoe Slept Here – The Legacy of West Gwillimbury”.  Sarah appreciated history and compiled genealogy books.  Sarah was very social and enjoyed playing euchre and bid-euchre.  Sarah always went to Florida in the winter and travelled to Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, England, and Bahamas.

We would like to thank the staff at Bradford Valley LTC, who provided exceptional care to mom and to the staff at Southlake Regional Health Centre who provided care during mom’s last hours.  We are truly grateful to all who kept our mom safe and comfortable.
