Lorna Devlin

Obituary of Lorna Devlin

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lorna Esther Devlin (nee Lancaster) on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 in her 103rd year.

Lorna was born on a farm in Burgessville, Ontario.  She was the youngest of four children and moved to Toronto at a young age.  Lorna obtained her teaching qualifications and taught in Toronto after graduating.  She married in 1951 and soon after moved to Bradford where she raised her sons and then returned to teaching in the early 1960's.

After retiring in the mid 1970’s, she and Ted travelled and visited many places around the world.  After Ted’s passing in 1994, she continued travelling with friends and enjoyed frequent trips with Hamilton Tours of Bradford where she made many more friends.

Lorna was an accomplished cook and baker, making many family celebrations special.  She loved to sew, enjoying designing, altering and making clothing.

Lorna was a devoted mom to Don and Roy and like a mother to Helen. Lorna is predeceased by her beloved parents Thomas and Esther Lancaster, loving sister Anna and brothers Don and Dick. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews.  She was always caring, kind and funny and a person who gave encouragement and made you feel special.  More than anything, Lorna loved her family.  She beamed with joy and great pride, each and every time she was with her family.  You will always be in our hearts.

Lorna will be remembered by her grandchildren Lauren (Alex) and Taylor (Trevor) and great grandchildren Sasha and Robert for her gentleness, loving nature and kind heart.  Her quiet devotion to bringing us joy through smiles, hugs and laughter will live on in the memories she blessed each of us with.  As we move through life, we will nurture and spread kindness following in the footsteps of an irreplaceable teacher, our grandma.  We will love you and miss you always.

A special thanks to the staff at Chartwell Hollandview Trail Retirement Residence and Dr. Susan Kuzmyk for their compassionate care of Lorna.

A memorial visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 2 p.m.

In Lorna's memory, donations may be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
