Bill had an awesome sense of humour and mischief at times. Around 2006 Lawrie and I made a presentation at BWG council that ended up with service changes causing fire to respond to certain medical calls that were not previously included in their protocols. When I bumped into Bill at Carrotfest that summer, he gave me a ton of grief: "Thanks a lot for making sure we're running double time" (with a smile of course because we all know Bill was passionate about his work). Gone way too soon: we send our love to all who hold him near and dear. I hope you are comforted by the great memories and the outpouring of respect and love from the community. Visiting with Silvana and Bill and sitting around the kitchen table talking about life, first responders and creating safe spaces for the community to enjoy, I found myself admiring a man who shared his hopes and dreams and his concern for others in crisis. It made me realize more fully that good people will always rise to the occasion when needed. Bill was one of those and he will be missed. May he rest in peace. Prayers for the family as you come together to remember.

Well Billy, I first met you as part of the 1995 Recruit Class. It soon became clear that you had what it took to become a member of the BFD family. Had the opportunity to run many Fire Related calls with you. You also attended a Service for a Fallen member of the FDNY ( the second best fire dept out there) killed in the line duty on 9-11. As well you attended a service for a Fallen Toronto Fire Capt. The BFD family has lost a passionate member, as well as the community. You are riding on the 'Back Step' now Billy, remember to 'Take' the hydrant......RIP Brother, See you at the BIG ONE, GW, Kelly, Brian and Robbie Bray.

My deepest condolences to the family. Bill made a lasting impression on me when I met him as part of the original Milton OTU crew. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face, even through some very hard times. I wish I had his energy. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him, including me, I will never forget him.

My deepest condolences to the Powell family and all those who knew him as a friend and co-worker. Billy, you were one of a kind. There’s not too many like you in this world, that had the dedication and work ethic as you did. Like many have said, the first one to the detachment and the last one to leave. Always taking the initiative to fix things around the office, getting trucks started for us all; on cold winter mornings, being the shoulder to lean on or having an ear to listen when we needed a friend. The things I will remember the most about you are your infectious smile and giggle and your ability to make us laugh with your quirky sense of humour. I still can’t believe your gone. My heart is broken. This world just won’t be the same without you in it. I know you’ll be keeping watch over your loved ones and your OTU family. Rest easy my friend. Until we meet again…….Krista Devine
