Obituary of Joseph Gilles Henri Aimé Bonhomme

“En paix au ciel”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father at the age of 82, peacefully and with family by his side, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Gilles will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters and sons-in-law: Lynn (Andrés), Lise (Adam), Stephanie, Catherine (Rob); Gracejean (previously married for 39 years); 7 grandchildren whom he adored: Olivia (Sam), Ryan, Alex, Zara, Jack, Evan and Hailey.

Predeceased by his father J.V. Bonhomme, beloved mother Simone Bonhomme (née LaRose) and baby brother Ronald.

He will also be remembered and missed by his brothers and sisters: Emilie (late Larry), Suzanne, Denise (late Jimmy), Lionel (Janice), Paul (Diane), Louise (Mike); and many nieces and nephews.

Gilles was born in Timmins, Ontario and settled in Toronto, Ontario where he worked as an Insurance Broker at Marsh Canada Ltd for 34 years, working his way up to Senior Vice-President for Mining.  He then moved to Aon Reed Stenhouse Inc where he worked as Vice President of Risk Management Practice for 3 years until he finally transitioned to much-deserved retirement. Gilles was a hard worker, astute and well respected in the insurance industry.

He will be missed and never forgotten by his friends and former colleagues.

He had a passion for golfing, was an avid reader and sports fan, enjoyed traveling, good food, red wine and dark rum. In Timmins he was an active member of the Jaycees and an avid chess and bridge player.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 16 Lockwood Road, Toronto, ON M4L 3M8
