Obituary of Elisabeth Kuzmyk
Elisabeth Kuzmyk, of Bradford, Ontario passed peacefully on January 6, 2024 at the age of 83 after a long and brave struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on October 2, 1940, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Liz was the youngest daughter of Berend and Diena Koekkoek. Liz was predeceased by her 10 siblings: Henk (Leinie), Jane (Ted), Bobbi (Cecil), Albert, Dee (Al), Ali (Henk), Bup (Ellen), Rea (Stan), Frank (Gail) and George (Connie).
Liz arrived in Canada in 1955 to join many of her brothers and sisters who had immigrated here following World War II. She settled in Toronto, training and working as a hairdresser. She met the love of her life, Roy Kuzmyk, on a blind date in 1958. Roy and Liz were married in 1960.
Liz is survived by Roy and her children: Dan (Susan); Rob (Michelle); and Jennifer (Joe). She was a loving Gramma to Janie (Brad), Jack (Chanelle), Claire, Emma, Curtis, Madigan, Sofia, Matteo, Reilly and Reed. She was a proud Oma to her great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Ezra.
Liz was beautiful, determined, fierce, and a supremely talented seamstress and artist whose preferred mediums included painting, sculpture, and dried flowers. She was a hard-working, respected and highly successful commissioned salesperson who worked for Sears, Newmarket for 29 years. She absolutely loved a good party, was a consummate cook and entertainer and leaves behind countless friends who will remember her sense of humour, hospitality and generosity.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2023 at Skwarchuk Funeral Home in Bradford, Ontario at 11:00 a.m, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be most welcome.
