Obituary of Robert (Bob) Blackstock
In Loving Memory of Robert (Bob) Blackstock
May 29th, 1952 - April 25th, 2024
In the quiet early hours on April 25th, 2024, at his home and surrounded by family, Bob completed his brave and courageous journey with cancer. He now joins his beautiful angel, wife Mary Blackstock (nee vanVeghel) along with his parents Don and Mary Blackstock.
Bob was a dedicated Ontario public servant working with the Ministry of Transportation for over 40 years.
Bob loved spending his summers up north in Burk’s Falls. He spent over 57 years going to “the little slice of heaven” as he referred to it. Swimming, water skiing, fishing, hunting, and sing- songs by the campfire with his guitar or banjo were his many favorites. A self-taught
musician, he had written several original songs, many of which the family continues to sing. He enjoyed playing many sports in his younger years including hockey, baseball, football and golf.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humor which he passed down to his daughters and grandchildren. He tried to make the most of life and ensure that happy memories were always made. Never wanting to travel far, he adored his hometown of Zephyr, Ontario and enjoyed living in a small community.
Bob is survived by his daughters Bonnie (Scott Kelly), Jennifer (Kris Stewart) and Erin (Zack Beattie), his brother Bill (Ellen) Blackstock, and 12 grandchildren Leah, Aren, Mya, Mason, Wade, Claire, Marren, Conlan, Melina, Landon, Wyatt and Clinton. Bob will be lovingly remembered by the vanVeghel family, Lucia Lee (Trudy), Maurice (Laura), Frank (Donna), Hoop (Nancy), Rosa Telep (Bill) and Mike (Kelly). Bob will also be celebrated by 19 nieces and nephews and the many close friends he has made throughout his life.
We thank all those who assisted Bob throughout his journey including Dr. Cynthia Luk, Dr. Jason Wong, Dr. Katie Mulhern, all the staff and volunteers of the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre. Additional thanks to Registered Nurse Practitioner Kianda Mauch and
Palliative Nurse April Ronzile for their extraordinary palliative support to ensure Bob could remain at his home.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on May 4th, 2024, 1 pm-4 pm at the Zephyr Community Hall, 310 Zephyr Rd., Zephyr.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Oak Ridge's Hospice or a charity of your choice in Bob's name.
