Obituary of Vera Joyce Reid
Vera peacefully passed away at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 95 years of age.
Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, she was always active and a sports enthusiast. She was the anchor on her high school relay team in 1948 which was the first time girls were allowed to compete in a track meet, which they won. She also played basketball and enjoyed ice skating. She moved to Toronto, Ontario in the early 1950’s. Beloved wife of the late Cornelius (Cal) Reid, they later moved to Queensville, Ontario. Always willing to lend a hand, she was a recipient of the “Good Neighbour Award” at Tom Taylor Place, Newmarket in 2016.
Loving mother of Karen Reid, Kathy (Geoff) Prophet and Cindy (Rick) Bingham. A proud and devoted grandmother, she enjoyed every moment she spent with them crafting, skipping, playing marbles, ping pong, hockey or whatever they wanted to do. She will be deeply missed by Bryan (Becky), Michelle, Dillon (Leslie), Courtney (Richard) and Kristi. Predeceased by her seven siblings. She will also be missed by other family members.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Southlake Regional Health Centre and to The Elden of Bradford for their care, kindness, compassion and patience.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Southlake Regional Health Centre or the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
