Antonio de Sousa

Obituary of Antonio de Sousa

Finally at peace, and in the arms of our Father, Antonio ‘Tony’ Bras de Sousa joined Heaven in his 67th year on November 7th, 2024.

Life began for Tony on January 7th,1958 on the small island of Madeira, Portugal. One of 6 children, Tony had to grow up quickly to survive and had to become good at just about anything to thrive. His resilient, fearless approach landed well as it allowed him to immigrate to Canada, find an incredible wife and lead a life of his choosing. His most notable achievements were his marriage, his children and the comfort he worked so very hard to build.

Tony was, is, will always be, an incredibly skilled labourer, helping hand and ultimate fighter if ever you needed someone in your corner. He thrived on using his talents, especially for others, and was a natural leader. Tony enjoyed building, farming and anything that used his innate engineering skills. He was living proof that with interest and hard work, you did not need formal education to exercise your endless potential and create a life of your dreams. There was never a time he doubted what he could do and maximized every opportunity he had – a real superpower to be envious of.

Tony is affectionately remembered by his three children; Ana (Robert), John (Diane) and Melissa (Arjun) - as well as his beautiful grandchildren; Marina, Robert, Evan, Rylan, Dyre, Cameron, Jaia and Abel. Living was with purpose when he became a dad and enjoyment when he became a grandfather. He is now joined with his loving wife Beatriz who is no doubt cooking his favourite meal and being the familiar safe place that always cared for him with dignity and grace.

Along with his immediate family, Tony has left many memories and connections and is survived by his brother Manuel and sister Justina along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He is reunited with his parents (Manuel Bras de Sousa and Justina de Jesus Goncalves), sisters Maria and Edite and brother Jose. Most importantly, he has entered the kingdom of Heaven, free of any pain, restriction or sorrow and returned as a son of God.

We welcome on behalf of flowers to consider making a donation to Matthews House Hospice. They helped care for Tony, our father, with such consideration and love and made our time with him that of quality. He was able to live through this chapter with choice and for that we are grateful.
