Douglas Carl Harvey

Obituary of Douglas Carl Harvey

Doug peacefully passed away at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in his 98th year.

He was the beloved husband of Doreen (née Holman) for 69 years and the devoted father of Brian (Karen) and Brenda. Doug was a proud Popa to Derek (Tracey), Amanda (Corey), Brett (Anna), and Tyler (Nicole), and a cherished great-grandfather to Oliver, Abigail, Cole, Halle, and Parker. He was also a dear brother to the late Laurene (the late Raymond) and is deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews.

After retiring from a 35-year career with Imperial Oil - Marine Division, Doug became a well-known figure in the world of minor hockey. He served as Registrar for the Scarborough Hockey League for over 30 years and coached for many years in the Wexford Hockey League. His connections spanned across the Greater Toronto Area, and there wasn’t an arena where he didn’t run into someone who knew him. Doug had a passion for travel, golf, and above all, spending quality time with his family. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Doug also cherished the time spent in Madeira Beach, Florida, with Doreen and Laurene.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated medical teams at Lakeridge Health and Viva Whitby Shores Retirement Community for their exceptional care and compassion.

An interment service will be held at Newton Robinson United Church Cemetery, 4386 Line 10, Bond Head, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11 a.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd, Bradford.

In Doug’s memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
