Obituary of Emilia Eleanora Gaiotti-Minatel
Emilia Eleanora Gaiotti-Minatel
Emilia passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 85 years of age.
Beloved wife of Celso for 66 years, loving mother of Sara and Roberto (Noel), dear sister of Liliana Gaiotti, the late Alvaro "Beppino" (Luciana) Gaiotti, the late Luisa Gaiotti and Pierangelo Gaiotti (Ennia Cappellari). Emilia will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both in Italy and Canada.
Born in Fiume Veneto, Italy, to “Gigi” Gaiotti & “Nina” Infanti, Emilia was the 4th of 5 children. She emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1958 and was married that same year. In 1960 Emilia and Celso moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where both her children were born and in 1977 they returned to Ontario and settled in Bradford.
Emilia was an avid gardener, always looking forward to spring time and would spend the rest of the season visiting as many greenhouses as possible in southern Ontario. Her greatest pleasure was receiving compliments on the beauty of her gardens and wouldn’t hesitate to share the news with all. Some even called her the ‘flower lady’.
She was also an avid cyclist, would always say she was born on a bike and her favourite trails were along the Niagara River and Kempenfelt Bay.
For Emilia’s 75th birthday her son presented her with her first tablet which she initially refused but once accustomed to it her ‘computer’ became her constant companion. It was a complete game changer for her opening up a whole new world and providing a highway of information at her fingertips especially regarding her beloved gardening world and even discovered new recipes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sylvia Ng of Sunnybrook Hospital, Dr. Lebner, Dr Liauw and the Palliative Care team of Southlake Regional Health Centre, St. Elizabeth care teams from Simcoe County, and Father Edwin for all of their care and compassion.
In Emilia's memory, donations may be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
A celebration of Emilia’s life will be held on Sunday, January 12th, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Road, Bradford.
