Obituary of Jean Isabel Marson (aka Rusty Ball)
Born and raised in the Eastern Townships of Quebec on a small farm during the depression, she left home at 17 to work in Montreal. In 1944 she joined the Canadian Women’s Army where she gained the nick name “Rusty” because of her red hair. She hoped to go overseas with the troop shows. As the war ended that hope ended, but she met and soon married Don Ball, moving to Burlington in Ontario. She had three children - Rob (Agathe), Barb (Blair) and Ted (Marian). She sang in the Trinity United Church Choir and later in the St Stephen’s United Church Choir. She was a Brown Owl and later a Guide leader. In the sixties she discovered golf and did not stop playing until health issues in her late seventies caused her to stop. She played at Lake Medad and Dundas Valley in the Hamilton area and other courses wherever she lived. Don died in 1982 after seeing the births of his five grandchildren - Mallory (Joy), Karolyn (Matt), Larry, Karen (Derek) and Tracy (Doug). In 1989, Jean married Roy Marson and moved with him to Eastern Ontario and then Lindsay. Roy died in 2002. Not long after she joined Ivan Wall on the golf course and then shared a lovely senior’s apartment with him.Jean had 8 great-grandchildren. She loved music, singing, dancing, visiting with her children and “grands” and “great grands” and being active. A lovely smile and a good sense of humour made her many friends over the years. We thank the staff of Bloomington Cove for the loving care they gave her in the 6 years she was there.
There will be a burial of the ashes and a celebration of her life next year when the snow melts and the grass starts growing.
