Obituary of Dr. Christopher William Huffman
We are saddened by the passing of Christopher Huffman at 90 years of age. Survived by his wife, Elsie (nee Miller) of 66 years, their children Lois Jameson (m. Jim), Sharon Sturgeon (m. Gary; children Zachary and fiancée Heather, Samantha and Alexa), Gloria Keith (m. Bruce; child Tommy); Sheila Gragtmans (m. Paul; children Matthew, Jennika, and Mark); Paul Huffman (m. Liisa; children Shane, Corey and Joel). He treasured his relationships with his sister Greta, predeceased brother Ralph, brother Gerald and was a fond uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Chris was born in Peterborough, Ontario and went to the University of Toronto. He had a successful dental practice with his brother Gerald. In later years he was a dentist for York Region Public Health.
Elsie became Chris’ caregiver after his vision became impaired. In turn, as her health declined, his loving, daily devotion to her was an inspiration to all in the nursing home.
Family, friends, patients and nursing home staff, all remarked that Chris was a real gentleman who appreciated life, was always positive, and cared more for others than he did for himself. As a father, he bestowed the life values of generosity, kindness, caring for others and selflessness, on his children through his words and deeds. He was passionate about his faith, his family and helping others. And he lived life to its fullest through his love for photography, fishing, camping, the outdoors, his enjoyment of his palate, and simple social indulgences like going to Tim Hortons. Chris enjoyed a lovely retirement with Elsie in Port Sydney, Muskoka and relished the Port Sydney beach time with his family. His favorite photo is the view of the Island on Mary Lake which is posted on this site.
We are so thankful for all the support from the staff at the Bradford Valley Long Term Care Home. Our family is very grateful for all they did looking after Chris and ensuring that he was together with Elsie.
Chris was guided daily by his deep faith, and will be there to welcome Elsie into Heaven. We will cherish and miss him forever.
Friends may call at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Road, Bradford for a memorial visitation on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. In Chris’ memory, donations may be made to Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation to send an underprivileged child to camp.
