Carl, I can't believe that you are gone. God took you away so suddenly and too soon. It seems so strange that here I am writing an obituary on the wall of a funeral parlour, about you. What are we going to do, where are we going to turn, you were always there when we needed you. Always soft-spoken, considerate and kind. I am so grateful we had such great times travelling. I am so glad we did the trips to the World Anglo-Indian Reunions in Calcutta, Sydney and Chennai and Goa last year. I will miss our weekly chats talking about everything under the sun. I looked up to you as my big brother, my knight in shining armour. I learned a lot from you and you were always there to set the example for the three of us. Your passing has left an emptiness in all of us, We will miss you, your smile, your laughter, your soft gentle voice but God has you now and I know you are there looking down on us. This is only a temporary gap, we will meet again, rub shoulders and continue our journey.

Eternal rest grant unto you dear Carl and let perpetual light shine upon you, may your soul rest in peace.
We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to his brothers Rod and Cedric, his sister Cheryl, his children, grandchildren and the rest of the family and friends.

I met Carl back in 1974 on a beautiful Sunday at the d’Croix house where his mother prepared a meal for family and friends. Later I learned that this was a tradition and was invited with open arms.
Carl was a true family man. Blossom and Carl have beautiful children and I remember it was fun to be around them.
I became friends with Rodney and we kept all these years in contact.
Carl will always be in my heart.
My deepest condolences to the family d’Croix and I wish them strength to cope with their great loss.

To my cousins, I am struggling to put into words how painful this is. Your Dad meant more to me than you might know. He was the voice I heard when there was no other around. He was the hug I needed when the loss was overwhelming. He was the quiet reassurance that all would be okay. He was the role model I looked to when I had no role model left.
Your Dad reminded me so much of my own. And he will be missed just as much.

It has been one week since Dad’s passing and our entire family is still in shock. We are saddened and heartbroken to have lost someone that was such a big part of our lives.
I am one of Carl’s son-in-law’s that knew him both personally and professionally for most of my adult life. After a long and successful career as the Chief Financial Officer of a major construction utilities company, Carl retired and some years later came out of retirement to support me with a start up company I founded in 1998. The original intent was to keep him busy a few days a week and that part-time venture turned into 15-years. This new chapter of his life turned into something he really enjoyed doing and everyone at work always looked forward to seeing him one or two days in the week. Looking back, I genuinely believe he was instrumental in the company’s success by way of the experience and guidance he gave the company over those years. He really enjoyed his work, and it meant a lot to him.
On the personal side, reading many of the postings describing Carl as a kind and gentle soul and a true gentleman is exactly how I would also describe him in his personal life as well as in his work life. He was courteous, thoughtful, and always made others feel important. Above all, his family meant everything to him! Although he is no longer with us, we are extremely grateful to have been able to spend so much quality time with him over the years traveling on vacations together, watching live sporting events and concerts (which he really loved) and this year with the lockdowns going on walks in the neighbourhood as well as some local walking trails. He loved spending time with his family, and we loved spending time with him!
We will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace Dad. You will always be in our hearts. Jose

I will remember Uncle Carl as a wise and gentle soul, an elder for whom I had a special fondness because of his humility and kindness. “How are you son” he’d say every time we met, before we launched into our usual analysis of politics, business and sports (he thought the Braves would be beat the Jays in 92 World Series, whereas I didn’t think Toronto would even advance that far).
As the most accomplished ‘statesman’ in our extended family, I looked up to him as a model for my own career and learned many lessons about the value of modesty and empathy. “You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions” was a quote he once shared with me.
A few years ago, he showed me the letter he wrote Aunty Blossom the night before they wed, which gave me a glimpse into the young Carl D’Croix: intelligent, thoughtful, and completely in love with his wife to be.
I will miss my special uncle dearly and feel fortunate that my own son got to meet him twice in his young life. May you Rest in Peace.

Growing up Carl was always my "Knight in shining Armour" On having grown up he not only was my brother but he became my BEST FRIEND.. As a brother he was quiet and watchful ... never had a dispute with ANYBODY and was forever a 'Piece at all costs' type of man...yet.. honest and upfront, told it like it is without a harsh word for anybody... "The Quiet Man" .. Everybody we knew loved him for himself. Absolutely the most unassuming person you could find. Yet he had a lot going for him and could well afford to think big of himself but kept himself humble and focused on his family. He lost his wife, yet managed to pull through it all with the help of his kids who were wonderful and very close and us his siblings.... Never heard a complaint even though he had some health problems which took away some of his quality of life ..the way HE saw it... He will be sorely missed, and my husband and I feel like a light has gone out of our lives.
