I went to St. Peter’s for 4 years from 2016-2020 and I knew Mr. Edgar all through the years. He was an amazing teacher and a completely wonderful person. He was also helpful to me when I needed help on school work and it was such an amazing pleasure to work with him. I just learned about his passing and my mind shakes in terror. Prayers and strength to you and your family, I miss you From Jakob Takacs

Dean sat beside me in our St. Peter's workroom. He often shared stories and made us all laugh. 217 was the place to be. I often passed him while walking the Barrie lakeshore with his wife and dog. He loved to be outside and in nature. His dedication was admirable - the supportive love for his children, how he advocated for students' learning needs, and in his various coaching roles. He is one of a kind and will be greatly missed. Lots of love to Dean, his family, and to all those he impacted with his caring heart.
Keep smiling my friend :)

My condolences to the family and friends of Dean at this time. I had the opportunity to have Dean (Mr.Edgar) as a teacher while attending Newmarket High School. Upon graduating Dean then let me come and work as a volunteer alongside him while building my resume. I was years later hired at King City Secondary School and had the opportunity to be an actual coworker. Dean was leaving King City S.S. and let me know the opportunity for me as a permanent hire in Health and Physical education was upon me.
He was a great man and it was a pleasure to have met and worked with him in all aspects. I am positive his mark has been left on many people.

I am so sorry for your loss Lisa, Larry, Gillie, Tom, Christopher and Cassie. I have had the honour and pleasure of knowing Dean for a number of years as a colleague and a friend from our time together at St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School. He was extremely supportive of our staff, students, and student athletes. Always willing to share a laugh and would lend a hand to anyone! He was selfless and gave everything he had to his family and the community that he worked with. He will always be remembered with Panther Pride. God bless

My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family. I am, unfortunately, unable to attend the visitation due to prior commitments but will join the funeral mass virtually. I wanted to share my experiences with Dean. When I was a new teacher at St. Pete's, Dean welcomed me with friendship and guidance. I often looked to him for advice and received what I considered to be the advice coming from a man that put principals, character, and strength of commitment before any personal gains. The students needs always came first for Dean. he will be missed by many.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Dean was an amazing person.
Kind, thoughtful, generous, strong (both mentally and physically), honest, loyal
Dean can be described by pretty much every positive character trait.
The top three things that stand out when I think of Dean;
That huge smile on his face whenever he greeted someone.
Quick wit (without ever offending anyone), his infection laugh, he had such a great sense of humour.
But one word I think best describes Dean, genuine.
We lost him way too soon, but we can’t change that, we can only be grateful we had him for 50+ years!
Rest In Peace Dean
Chris, Marni, Nicole, Kyle and the entire Toushan family

I met Dean in 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School, he was one of the first staff that welcomed me to the Panther family. What I saw in Dean was a human being who was genuine, kind, and caring. He confided in me and I will always be grateful for his honesty, humility, and love that he had for anyone that was fortunate enough to have met him. There is a huge gap in his leaving this earthly life for those of us here, but it also brings comfort to us knowing he is an Angel in Heaven.

Yesterday, December 16, 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of our Agency's festive holiday drive for families in need in conjunction with Newmarket High School. At the annual pick up I told a dozen students about a teacher, Dean Edgar who had come to me all those years ago with an vision to help others at Christmas from within his school at the time. Hundreds of families later your legacy lives on without missing a year!! Last night I heard of your passing. You will be missed neighbour, friend, and educator in our own children's school. Our sincerest condolences to your extended family. sincerely, Steve Bransfield and family and YSSN/ Newmarket High holiday gifts drive liaison.
