To the family of Pauline Holancin,
Pauline and Jake lived next door to my mom and dad (Jackie and Ron Lanthier, died 2016), on Westview in Aurora for many years. Mom went every Tuesday to Pauline’s art class and benefitted greatly from Pauline’s wisdom and generosity.
Pauline and Jake and my mom and dad became great friends and entertained each other often.
Pauline, very kindly offered to teach me watercolour painting at some of her Tuesday classes. I credit Pauline with any successes that I have with my paintings.
May memory of Pauline’s wonderful warm and engaging personality, generosity and zest for life as well as her many beautiful paintings…may these memories sustain you in the years ahead..

Our condolences to the family. Pauline was a Life member of East Central Ontario Art Association.
For many years, Pauline was the driving force behind the Saturday night entertainment at our annual September Workshop Weekend at the YMCA's Geneva Park resort. Artists from both ECOAA and COAA would participate. Pauline put a tremendous amount of work into the Saturday night entertainment. She organized the skits, wrote new words for popular songs and provided costumes and props, all orchestrated to making us laugh and sometimes, cry. I distinctly remember Jake Mol who was sick with cancer at Geneva Park in 2018, singing Frank Sinatra’s My Way. It was a poignant moment. Due to Covid and the subsequent closure of Geneva Park, it turned out 2019 was the last time Pauline ran the show. According to those who visited Pauline on her last day, she had wanted to do it one last time.
Pauline was a generous, inspirational, fun, much-loved personality and instructor who is missed by many in our artist communities.
Thank you, Pauline for the laughter and the tears. Rest in peace.

Joanne, Jackie, Cindy, Michelle and Jane,
You are each in my thoughts as I heard of your Mom’s passing. I have many great memories of times skating at the arena and our Mom’s were always in the background helping to run things.
Most recently, I enjoyed a wonderful visit with your Mom around the last week of May. We reminisced and she shared stories of her youth and times with her children and grandchildren. She also spoke about how glad she was that she and my Mom, Dora Weatherill, had renewed their friendship over the last few years and all the laughs they shared. She spoke of what fun they had driving around to different places together.
So glad I was able to share that visit with her. I will always remember her great laugh and outgoing personality.
May you hold her memories close.

I had the distinct honour of knowing Pauline through my time working at The Elden. Pauline was a force of positivity and happiness, ensuring every Resident felt welcome. Her art slowly decorated every part of The Elden, including making its way into Residents rooms through her custom work, anniversary gift, birthday gifts and just general gifts she gave those she wanted to show appreciation too.
I cannot even put into words how honoured I am to have known her, to have shared in her life and got to know as a friend. Even after leaving The Elden to pursue other employment, every time I went back to visit she was always waiting with a hug and to hear all about what I was up to. Her smile and laugh will forever leave a positive mark on my life.
I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends. She talked about you all fondly, and was so proud of each and everyone of you, sharing in your accomplishments and life updates.

HOLANCIN: Forever
You'd stroked your tools with seemingly ease, and honed that skill toward expertise,
Where scenes of beauty - captured all - for posterity, you could freeze
Them on your canvas-covered easels, we saw your works, and we were pleased;
'Though youthful years, weren't always kind, your brush could well, your tensions cease.
And while you left for pastures green - the likes of us had witnessed, seen -
Success that you could - humbly - accept, within all aspects, you would glean;
For failure wouldn't, nor couldn't, in your resolve, produce a dent
In your effort to do your best, whate'er you touched, so evident.
Now may so deserved Peace grant you eternal rest.

I can remember when the Holancin family moved to Bradford ! They were a welcome addition to our town . I’m sad that I never knew Pauline better . She sounds like a wonderful person . I admire her many accomplishments not the least of which was choosing her own time of death ! I hope to have that option . Sincerely , Judy Tupling ( Todd) .

Pauline was an invaluable member of our Willowdale Group of Artists. She was so generous with her time, talents and teaching. Her annual Christmas shows brought comradery, laughs and an opportunity to let loose with our other, shall we say, hidden talents. Pauline will be sorely missed as a member, and as a vibrant light.

Our condolences to Pauline's family. We got to know Pauline and Jake through Ev Newsome- Mark's mother. They became good friends and even travelled to Newfoundland together and stayed in our summer home there. We have a few paintings on the walls there by Pauline, Jake and Ev.
Pauline was so good to Ev over the years, and we always enjoyed seeing her. I spoke to Pauline in January to wish her a Happy Birthday, and that was the last time I spoke to her. She was always positive despite any health problems she had.
In Sympathy,
Mark and Heather Newsome

Pauline called me after my father, Paul Kolarik, passed away recently. We had a lovely chat, but she told me she was on the way back into the hospital that day. I'm so sorry to learn that she passed away. She bravely told me she was "ready to go" when her time came. She was a dear friend of my mother (Emily Kolarik) since their teenage years in Bradford. I have a few of Pauline's paintings, and one of Jake's. Sending sincerest condolences to Joanne, Jackie, Cindy, Michelle and Jane and their families.
I'd love to stay in touch. I've attached a picture of my one of my favourite paintings which I bought when my Grandmother, Anna Vrablik, passed away and left me a small gift of money. I wanted to buy one of Pauline's paintings to connect back to their Bradford roots. I found a picture of Nancy, Emily and Cathy at one of the Tamarak Studio open houses.

I didn’t know Pauline for very long, but I knew her to be full of fun and laughter, ready to share a glass of wine and a good joke.
I am so thankful to have her beautiful “ Poppy” painting. It reminds me of her warmth and vibrant smile. I will miss her.

The obituary and Carolyn Pascoe's tribute noted beautifully so many of the details, joys and contributions in Pauline's life.
To this, may I add that Pauline was a vibrant, warm, approachable, very funny, talented, gracious, generous and much loved member of the Willowdale Group of Artists.
To her family, friends and fellow artists, please keep your fondest memories of Pauline close to your heart and when you can't figure something out, say to yourself, "What would Pauline suggest?".
With warm regards,
Betty Caplan

Notice of Pauline's Passing sent to Toonto Watercolour Society Members
It is with profound sadness that we inform you that one of our most beloved TWS members, Pauline Holancin, passed away on Monday, June 19. Pauline was an icon of our art community and a pillar of our Society. Her generous spirit of sharing benefited not only her students but the many art groups to which she belonged. She was a talented artist and a formidable impresario. Her skits and gala productions for art groups brought joy and laughter to all. Pauline was the ultimate volunteer, never too busy to take on another project or help out where needed.
We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to acknowledge Pauline’s contribution and dedication to the TWS with a special presentation to her at our Spring Aquavision Show. The list of all her accomplishments may be found in our latest newsletter.
Pauline was a true friend with a beautiful spirit and a loving heart. She will be forever remembered and missed by everyone who had the privilege to know her.

We are so saddened to hear the news of Pauline's passing. She was an amazing woman, with a beautiful personality and zest for life.
She loved her artwork and nature and would often talk to me about her adventures to Algonquin and her paint trips while waiting for her car to be serviced.
We will miss seeing Pauline and send our deepest condolences to the family. May she be at peace and reunited with Jake once again.
So long for now Pauline.
